Easily our choice for “Best Eyes” of the Hammer Girls, Madeline Smith launched her screen career with a small part in the 1970 sex romp Pussycat, Pussycat, I Love You, appearing with fellow Hammer Girl Veronica Carlson. The following year, she appeared in two films for Hammer Studios: as “Dolly” in Taste The Blood of Dracula (opposite Christopher Lee), and as “Emma Morton” in The Vampire Lovers (opposite Peter Cushing). In 1973, she appeared with Vincent Price in Theatre of Blood, and joined the ranks of the Bond Girls as “Miss Caruso” in Live and Let Die, with Roger Moore as James Bond. A year later, she returned to Hammer, starring with David Prowse and reunited with Peter Cushing in Frankenstein and The Monster From Hell.

Linda Hayden starred in her second film, Taste The Blood of Dracula, when she was only sixteen years old. Her debut had come two years earlier, playing sultry teenage slut Luci in the erotic exploitation flick Baby Love. In Taste The Blood of Dracula, the sexy teenager went up against one of the most imposing screen vampires of all time: Christopher Lee’s Dracula. This was Hayden’s only role in a Hammer film, but not her only role in the horror genre. She went on to star with such notable horror actors as Peter Cushing and Vincent Price. She also went up against David Niven as Dracula in Vampira (aka Old Dracula) in 1974. This film also featured fellow Hammer Hottie Veronica Carlson in a small role.

One of Hayden’s most sought-after films is The House On Straw Hill (aka Expose). It was announced as a region-one DVD release in 2004, but has yet to see the light of day. It still remains one of the UK’s “Video Nasty”, part of a list of films national censors have deemed unfit for viewing.

Though she was no stranger to horror and sci-fi, Hazel Court had the distinction of being the first true Hammer Heroine, when she landed the role of Victor Frankenstein’s cousin Elizabeth in Hammer’s breakthrough gothic horror film, The Curse of Frankenstein (1957). She went on to work for Hammer again several years later in The Man Who Could Cheat Death. In the ’60′s, she went on to work in several of the Roger Corman-helmed Edgar Allen Poe adaptations, such as The Masque of the Red Death with Vincent Price, and The Raven, with Price and horror legend Boris Karloff. She retired from acting in 1981, her final screen role being in  The Omen III: The Final Conflict. She died in 2008 at the age of 82.
